Healing and Growth Happens through Connection
My Approach
Whether advocating for my children, supporting military families, or walking alongside my clients, I strive to show up with integrity and purpose. I believe that being present, nurturing genuine connection, listening with empathy, treating people with respect, and offering kindness creates the foundation for healing and growth.
I’m committed to providing a safe and welcoming space where differences are respected and every story matters. My approach is culturally sensitive and LGBTQIA+ affirming, grounded in curiosity, compassion, and a belief in each person’s capacity for change.
My Story
My journey into this profession began with life as a military spouse. Over 22 years, I lived in six states and Germany, adapting to each unique culture. Those experiences shaped my worldview and brought me to Colorado Springs. Frequent moves, deployments, and ever-present uncertainty are not easy — they require resilience and support. Living across the country or an ocean away from family removes the natural support systems most people rely on. When a fellow spouse had a mental health crisis, I responded by establishing a family support group that met monthly in my living room — welcoming anyone seeking connection.
My last year in Germany was especially challenging. I became overwhelmed navigating both German and American systems to support my infant child’s health. I was relieved the day a social worker came to my home, sat beside me on the couch, and listened carefully. Together we found strategies to balance the needs of my baby with those of my three older children. That was a key moment, inspiring my path into social work and ultimately trauma therapy — helping clients feel understood, supported, and empowered.
Training in EMDR was a defining moment in my clinical social work career. I was astonished by the speed and depth of healing. When a young client who suffered nightly nightmares found complete relief after just two sessions, I gave him a high-five and said, “EMDR is a nightmare buster.” I continue to use that phrase to motivate children and adults with persistent nightmares who feel hesitant to face their trauma.
My understanding of trauma and recovery is shaped by lived experience. I survived a serious car crash, resulting in a brain injury and post-traumatic symptoms. I went through months of intensive rehab, relying on others to take me to appointments. Each ride triggered intense panic and an extreme startle response at every red light and brake light. I’m so grateful for the trauma therapist who used Flash Technique (a variation of EMDR) to resolve those symptoms — affirming my belief in the power of skilled, compassionate care and effective therapeutic tools.
These experiences and more influence how I show up in my work — with empathy, authenticity, and deep respect for each person’s healing and professional growth.
